On Wednesday March 13th 2019, Jennifer Kelly represented the school, particularly the Transition Years Coding class, at the CSforALL Summit in Galway, sharing our experiences of coding, STEM generally and all possible avenues and skills into Computer Science.
CSforAll is an American organization aimed at inclusive, rigorous and sustainable access to Computer Science and is a topic that is critical right now with the introduction of Coding as a Junior Cycle short course and Computer Science being introduced in the new Senior Cycle.
The event in NUI Galway represented all aspects of education (primary, post primary and third level, Irish and international) and industry models for learning, and featured presentations by other schools involved in pilot schemes.
It seems our school is very well placed to take on these challenges, situated and supported over the years by technology in the community, from the Digital Hub to Google.
We are already working in robotics, Python and JavaScript programming, Raspberry Pi and various other physical computing media. Next steps: IoT and competitive projects.
Well done, Jennifer!
